From Setback to Comeback

“Don't be afraid to start over – this time, you're not starting from scratch; you're starting with experience.”

We often hear that you must try something first to see if it works or not. While it sounds encouraging, it's important to know that things can go either way, and you need to be okay with that.

A few months ago, when I was new to the corporate world, I had an idea to promote our online store, Dukhni, on Pinterest. I thought of sharing aesthetic pictures of our products to let people know about Dukhni. But when I discussed it with my seniors, I realized there was more to it – you could make money through Pinterest!

So, we started doing research, reading articles, and watching videos to learn. We built our Pinterest page and decided to advertise. Since I was new to this, it felt like exploring a new place. We set our budget, launched ads, and hoped for sales, but it didn't work at first. We hardly got any sales, and it was a bit disappointing.

I remember feeling really happy when we finally got one sale. After some trial and error, we improved our advertising with help from Pinterest. Some days were hopeful, but most were nerve-wracking, checking if we had any sales. We tried this for a few months, got some sales, but spent a lot of money too.

Eventually, we decided to stop advertising on Pinterest because it wasn't working well enough, and we had surpassed our trial period that we had decided on.

Even though it felt like a 'fail,' we're open to trying it again later with new ideas. Personally, it didn't feel bad, as I learned a lot from it—how advertising on such platforms works, how different each platform is from one another, and that what works for some may not always work for you!

So, my learning in one line was: If something doesn't work the first time, it's not the end. Maybe it's a sign to try a different way!
